See Overview of Processing a Backup Under VSS from Microsoft

You can use the VSS to set up a data backup point in particular volume, and recovery it to any point state that you have created when you want it in the future. These two features can help customer's computer to restore files that have been accidentally deleted. Such works are so easy to General Staff that does not require the ability to create efficient backup strategy.

Administrators can publish a shared folder on the server by VSS, and do time points backup in a certain time backup interval ( within a given time there can be at most 65 copies ).This allows users to securely process the file and revert them to earlier version at any time, without IT pros’ help.
