How to Clone GPT Disk with An Easy and Safe Way?
Share this:

I think there are two obvious advantages of GPT disk comparing with MBR disk.

Comparison ItemGPT DiskMBR Disk
Partition SizeLarger than 2.2TBSmaller than 2.2TB
Partition QuantityUnlimited4 primary partitions

So if you need a partition size is more than 2.2TB, you must choose GPT disk. GPT is a new style and it is much stabler than the traditional MBR. The self-correcting ability of GPT is stronger than MBR. In my opinion, advance with the times, GPT is preferred for a disk is wise.

Now the popular Windows operating system are Windows 7 and Windows 8, Windows XP still have a certain market share. An overwhelming majority of the Windows 64-bit operating system support system booting from GPT disk with EFI/UEFI, except Windows XP.

If you want to transfer your data on your old GPT disk to a new one, you can clone disk. Clone means copy, but not simply copy & paste, thus don’t work. You must with the help of specialized software. We have used Ghost in the past, it can only run on the DOS environment, say that it was a regret. But now I would like recommending you a free disk cloning software named AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard, which is developed by AOMEI Tech Co.,Ltd. Runs perfectly under Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 (both 32bit and 64bit) and supports GPT disk very well.

Let’s see how it works. Download, install and run. Our target is cloning Disk 1 to Disk 2.

Right click Disk 1 and select “Copy Disk”, you can also click “Disk Copy Wizard” on the left wizards panel.

Copy Disk

Then there will be two copy methods, here we choose the method 1.

Select Method

Select destination disk. It is Disk 2.

Select Disk

Click “Next” then click “Yes” in the pop-up window to confirm and go to the next page to edit this disk.

Edit Disk

Read the note and click “Finish” to go back the main menu.

Read Note

Now you see Disk 2 has changed. Just click “Apply” to execute pending operation.

Apply

Why do we say this is an easy and safe way to clone GPT disk? Because with AOMEI Partition Assistant, it won’t cause data loss and save time. Now the new version has a new function called “Windows To Go Creator” that means you can create a portable Windows 8/8.1. I love this partition software, and I think you’ll like it, too.
