Partition Hard Drive under Windows PE Bootable Media

It’s a common sense that we can partition a new hard drive in Windows built-in Disk Management or with Command Line. But do you know that we can also partition the hard drive without accessing into Windows OS, instead, we can just partition the hard drive in Windows PE? This allows us to partition the hard drive more safely and more conveniently. As a Win PE tool, AOMEI PE Builder allows us to create a desktop environment with AOMEI Partition Assistant, AOMEI Backupper. We can use AOMEI Partition Assistant to partition the new hard drive in Windows PE now.

Unlike other disk partition management software in Windows PE, AOMEI PE Builder is more advanced with an executable desktop environment. We can use and switch between several apps like in a full version of Windows 7. This allows the users to use several powerful software to test and fix their system when there’s a problem occurs.

First we need to create a bootable device of AOMEI PE Builder. Download AOMEI PE Builder first and then launch the program. After you have agreed with the terms and conditions, select a device for saving the ISO. It can be CD/DVD, USB storage device. When you have decided, click on Next. The bootable media will be created soon. Please note that you can add multiple hardware drivers in this step, which makes the Win PE more convenient to use.

When the bootable media is ready, we need to reboot and go into BIOS to change the boot device.

In Windows PE, find AOMEI Partition Assistant on desktop and open it. We can find that the configuration of the main interface is similar to Windows built-in Disk Management. The partition map is located in the bottom right corner. Move the mouse point on the target hard disk. Right click on it then choose “Create Partition”.

In Create Partition window, we can specify the size of the partition, select the drive letter of the partition as well as the file system of the partition. In addition, we can directly adjust the size and move the position of the partition via dragging the adjust bar on partition graph. In Advanced Setting, we can enable partition alignment for SSD. Once everything is set, click OK.

This time, in the main interface, we need to click on Apply at the top left corner. Then click Proceed to perform the hard drive partitioning task.
