Best Software to Copy Disk to another Hard Drive in Windows 10
Share this:

Disk copy means to create a duplication of the original hard drive. Everything in the disk can be cloned, including deleted, lost files and inaccessible data. Hard drive copy is usually used to backup, clone, migrate or transfer the old hard drive to a new one, for example, one may want to copy disk to smaller drive when he upgrade HDD to SSD. .

As mentioned above, when system crashes or programs refuse to work, we can restore them with hard drive duplication, rather than reinstalling the operating system and applications. Thus, it is especially important for us to copy hard disk to external drive as a backup.

Here, we highly recommend AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional for you, which is one of the greatest partition magic software. It supports Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP (32bit &64bit) OS. Other than copying internal hard drive, you can also use this software to copy recovery disk to USB drive or copy USB drive to USB drive directly. Two methods to copy disk to new hard drive

There are two methods provided in the software: Copy Disk Quickly and Sector-by-Sector Copy. Both methods ensure data security and just need several clicks. Let's see them one by one.

The first one is also called files-by-files copy, because it only duplicates the used space of the source disk. Meanwhile, the target disk can be equal to, smaller or larger than the original hard drive, but it must be the same or larger than the used space. During the copy process, resize and move partition are available. This method takes up less time and bad sectors, if any, on the hard drive will not be copied. However, the deleted, lost files or inaccessible data cannot be copied to the target disk through this method.

Fortunately, Sector-by-Sector Copy method can solve the disadvantage of the first method, and all the sectors of the original one can be cloned, no matter whether it is used or not. Moreover, the target one must be equal or larger than the source one.

Before the procedures below, we must keep some important points in mind. Here is the list:

  • When applying the operation, the data on the target disk will be wiped out. So, please backup the data on the target one.

  • It doesn't allow selecting system/dynamic/GPT/offline disk as the target one.

  • If contains system partition, the program will require to reboot the OS, so please make sure to save all the data.
