Upgrade NVMe to larger NNVe SSD

NVMe, abbreviation for non-volatile memory express, is an open logical device interface specification, developed for SSDs. Compared with SSD with ACHI, SSD with NVMe support enjoys better performance, lower latency, and higher input/output operations per seconds.

Due to its great property, it is a wise choice to turn to NVMe SSD. As time goes by, there are more and more data and applications, the capacity of NVMe SSD that you are using can be unable to satisfy the demand; and you want to upgrade the current NVMe SSD with a larger one. To stay out of trouble of Windows operating system and all other applications reinstallation, you can clone NVMe to NVMe SSD.

Get a powerful cloning software for NVMe SSD

It is extremely important to find out a proper cloning tool to complete NVMe to NMVE SSD copy with secure boot. Here AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional, a great SSD cloning tool, designed for Windows operating system, will be my first choice. It is capable of cloning NVMe SSD to NVMe SSD with different size and supports different brands of SSDs, such as Samsung NVMe SSD, Intel NVMe SSD, and WD NVMe SSD etc. Besides, it is with sleek graphic interface and rather easy to handle.

How to clone NVMe to NVMe SSD in Windows 7/8/10?

Now, install AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional on your computer; install the larger target NVMe SSD to your Windows computer (If there is only one NVMe M.2 slot, you can use an adapter from M.2 to PCIE for the second drive) and make sure it can be detected; initialize the new NVMe SSD as GPT; then check out the steps listed below to learn how to perform NVMe SSD to NVMe SSD copy.

PS.: It is available to download the demo version of AOMEI Partition Assistant to have a try at first.

Step 1. Run the software and go to All Tools > Disk Clone Wizard. In the pop-up window, you can choose a way to clone NVMe SSD to larger NVMe SSD based on specific situation.

Methods

  • Clone Disk Quickly – clones only used space on source disk and requires that the capacity of target disk over the used space on source disk.

  • Sector-by-Sector Clone – copies every sector, unused sectors included and demands that the capacity of source disk beyond the size of target disk.

* If you need to clone larger drive to smaller one, you have to choose the first option.

Step 2. Choose the boot NVMe SSD you want to upgrade as source disk.

Step 3. Select the new larger disk as destination disk and check Optimize the performance of SSD (If the target disk is HDD, uncheck the option).

Step 4. On this screen, it is available to adjust partitions on the target disk or leave it alone.

Edit

Step 5. You’ll go to the main console automatically. Click Apply and Proceed to execute SSD cloning operation.
