Fix SD Card Mounted as Read Only Easily

If your SD card is mounted as read only, you cannot write, delete, copy or move data on it. You can refer to this article and find solutions to fix it.

Scenario

I have a MicroSD card reader in my notebook. When I insert a MicroSD memory card into it, I can't write any data on it - it's read-only. The same thing happens when I try to do it under root. How to fix SD card mounted as read only?

When your SD card is mounted as read only, it prevents you from writing, deleting, copying or moving data on it. It will cause much inconvenience. To fix this issue, you can first check if your Switch Lock is slide up or down. Some of the SD cards comes with SD adapter that has Switch Lock. So, make sure that your Switch Lock is Slide Up (unlock position). If your Switch Lock is slide up and the SD card is still in read only state, you can use the following 2 methods to fix it.

Method 1. Remove read only on SD card with diskpart

Step 1. Plug the read-only SD card into Windows. Click Start, type cmd in the Run dialogue.

Step 2. Type diskpart in the command prompt and run diskpart.exe.

Step 3. Type list disk. Now you'll see all your connected drives, find which one is the card drive.

Step 4. Type select disk n, where n represents the disk number of your SD card drive.

Step 5. Type attributes disk clear readonly, and it will remove read only for your SD card.

Now open your SD. You should be able to edit, delete, copy or move files.

Method 2. Fix SD card mounted as read only with AOMEI Partition Assistant
