Introduction of AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter
It is a professional and
reliable version of software to convert type of disks. The main function is making
dynamic disk convert to basic disk under the condition of keeping data safe, the process
is so fast and easy that it just costs you 3 to 10 seconds to finish all the operations.
Dynamic disk includes dynamic volume such as Simple Volume, Spanned Volume, Striped Volume, Mirrored Volume, and RAID-5 Volume. With AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter, copy these volume sector by sector to basic disk, all of these could be converted to basic partition, the time should be taken is based on the data of dynamic volume.

About dynamic disk
Microsoft introduced the conception of dynamic disk from Windows 2000; dynamic disk
is used to optimize the performance of computer by making full use of multiple
disks. One partition in basic disk, such as D: partition, it couldn't span to two or
more disks, but one volume in dynamic disk could. Dynamic disk can works on the
system with multiple disks. We all know that the built-in disk management could
convert basic disk to dynamic with ease; however, it is not a piece of cake to
convert them back. If you wish to do it, some troublesome works must be done.
Sometimes, green hand friends are not familiar with such kind of operation. First of all, delete all the partition (also named volume) in dynamic disk so as to make disk empty. But, the system boot volume never could be deleted, how to accomplish this conversion? Do you like searching the latest news or information about the area of computer? If does, you will find that it has a version of software to assist with you! AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter is such kind of professional and technical software to convert dynamic disk to basic disk as well as keep data safe completely come true. Please read the detailed procedure with view and instruction in the next chapter.
How to Convert Dynamic Disk to Basic within a Few Seconds
In most cases, after converting your basic disk to dynamic disk, if you wish to
convert back, it is trouble for the procedure. At this time, how about the third
party software to support you? AOMEI
Dynamic Disk Converter is what you need. Accomplish your work with
assuring the data safe.
Here shows you the conversion procedure in details:
Set a dynamic disk with capacity of 512 GB below as an example: it has 2 simple volumes F and G, pay attention to the condition that dynamic disk converter can't deal with the disk which has any volume spans to two or more disk. Therefore, the right method is cloning the volume that spans on multi-disks to another basic disk to realize the conversion indirectly by the second function of dynamic disk converter.
At first, acquaint with the recent condition of dynamic disk in Disk Management below:
Secondly, apply and run AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter, skip the Welcome page by clicking "Next", To the next view:
It has two functions in the upper view, the first one, convert directly; the second one, convert indirectly by cloning. Here selects the first one and click "Next" into Wizard Page.
Go on clicking "Next" to the following view:
If it is able to convert, you will see the above "Confirm Operation" view and just confirm the process by clicking "Proceed" to start. If the process will lead to the volume lose, it will point out to you and give you time and choice to ensure data safety. The below interface show you the process:
After completing the conversion, please reboot your computer, everything will be OK. Check your work in Disk Management:
In fact, through the converter, you just need to click the Next button a few times; you would smoothly complete the conversion!
Unreadable dynamic disk
Sometimes we will come across some hardware error in the process of using disks or
hardware environment changed or its data tampered. All of these would lead to the
disk unreadable. For unreadable dynamic disk with simple volume and mirrored volume,
AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter
could make it readable by converting to basic disk. While any dynamic volume spans
within disks could not be touched by AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter.
Above is the view of unreadable disk. The disk marked in Red Cross is unreadable. If it just has simple volume and mirrored volume, AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter could make it readable by converting to basic disk safely.
Invalid dynamic disk
In most cases, dynamic disk becomes invalid as windows system doesn't support it. For
instance, place a dynamic disk into the Windows XP Home Edition; it will be invalid,
as Windows XP Home Edition doesn't support dynamic disk, neither do the entire home
edition of Microsoft, such as Vista Home Basic Edition, Vista Home Premium Edition,
Windows 7 Home Basic Edition, Windows 7/8 Home, Premium Edition as well as Windows
98, NT, MS-DOS before Windows 2000. If it just has simple volume and mirrored
volume, dynamic disk converter could make it readable by converting to basic disk
without loss of data.
The above screenshot is an invalid dynamic disk, the Disk 2 with a downward red cross is Dynamic Invalid, AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter helps realize conversion, and it will prompt you if it could not do in order to avoid data losing.
Clone dynamic volume
Any valid dynamic volume which isn't beyond 2TB could be cloned to the basic disk by
AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter. Before clone, it must has a free space that is equal
or bigger than the capacity of dynamic volume need to be cloned to ensure clone or
copy sector by sector fast. If not, clone data by file to file as long as the real
data or file in the volume to be cloned is smaller, but more time should be
Here is example to clone dynamic volume with AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter:
There is spanned volume with 30GB in dynamic disk and a basic disk with 320GB, what we do next is cloning the spanned volume to the basic disk efficiently. Look at your disk management condition:
Run AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter, and skip the welcome page to the following interface:
Select "Convert any dynamic volume to basic partition" and click "Next" to the following view:
In the above view, select the dynamic volume to be cloned (source volume), here chooses F spanned volume, then, click "Next" to the below view:
In the above view, select the unallocated space with 320GB in the disk to clone the F volume. Why we just choose this? As another unallocated space is 24GB and lack of capacity to clone the volume with 30GB, it can't be cloned sector by sector.
Please click "Next" on the above screenshot, dynamic spanned volume (F:) will be converted to basic disk (G: Copy of F volume) sector by sector.
Attention: If you choose the unallocated space with 24GB, get the warning below:
The above prompt box recommends that in order to make sure the copy of data faster, please select a disk space that is bigger than 30GB. Of course, you have another choice that clone file by file. In addition, you couldn't select the unallocated space, which is smaller than the used space of source volume. For example, F volume has used 25GB, the unallocated space with 24GB can't select.
The above view shows you Dynamic Volume: F - spanned volume will be converted to Basic Partition: G - Copy of F with Sector by sector. Now, click "Proceed" to start.
Read the detailed proceeding of clone, if you wish to shut down the computer after finishing operation, please tick the option: "Automatically shut down the computer after the completion." Finished the process, it appears a copy of F volume: G partition, please check it in the computer management:
Look through the view, a copy of F volume: G partition generates in the Basic Disk 3, the content and capacity of them is the same. At this stage, everything is done.
To sum up, if you need to convert basic disk to dynamic disk, choose the Windows disk management; however, is it so trouble for you to delete all the partition or volume in the dynamic disk and make it clean up so as to convert safely? Never hesitate, try to use the AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter and operate trustingly as mentioned above.
