Basic disk, which usually found on computer operating system, are the most commonly used storage type. Another representative type—dynamic disk (alias software RAID), its application also becoming more and more extensive.

When create spanned volume, one point should keep in mind: spanned volume can not provide the feature about fault tolerance. If one disk has the part of spanned volume fails, the total volumes fail and all the data on the spanned volume changes unavailable naturally.
Like spanned volume, striped volume also can be created on the condition that has two or more disks, and it also does not support fault tolerance. But, the striped volume can provide the improvement of disk input/output (I/O) performance because it can across the disk to distribute the I/O request.
Mirrored volume is one of the fault-tolerance dynamic volumes. It provides the data redundancy through the way to copy all the information on the volumes. It needs two disks to make up, if one disk fails, the data on this failed disk become unreadable, but another normal disk also can run normally.
Another fault-tolerance dynamic volume is RAID5. RAID5 and mirrored volume have similar functions. So, the performance of RAID5 is just like the mirrored volume.
