Although Partition Assistant is mainly designed for Windows hard drive partition program, it comes with copy wizards to do pre-partition job - backup. In Partition Assistant Wizards list, you can see “Disk Copy Wizard” and “Partition Copy Wizard”, with this two wizards’ help, you can make sure data secure. Let’s go though these two Wizards
Disk Copy Wizard
It means to copy hard disk to another place, which is helpful when new HDD or SSD is in use without reinstalling system. Take the following steps to start. Run Partition Assistant Standard Edition, in the main window you can see how many disks you have in the disk list. Choose the source disk, and then Click Disk Copy Wizard from the left column, or you can choose it from Wizard in the menu, of course, Right click is also available.
In the pop up window, two options are available for you to choose: Copy Disk Quickly; Sector by Sector Copy. The previous one means to copy the used space of the disk to another disk with partition adjustable in the process, and this one is recommended; the later one, on the other hand, is to copy all sectors of the disk to a target disk both for used space and free space.
Choose one to Next, now you can select the Source Disk, next to select Destination Disk, Next to proceed, here you can see three options before starting.
- Copy without resizing partitions: The source disk configuration will be copied on the new disk with same partitions size
- Fit partitions to the entire disk: The partitions on the source disk will occupy the entire destination disk
- Edit partition on this disk: You could resize partitions size on the new disk
Note: when the copy disk operation is finished, please do not start the computer directly from the destination disk. In order to make Operating System on the destination disk, please shut down the computer after disk copy finished and disconnect the source disk, then start the computer from the destination disk.
After reading the note, click Finish to Apply.
