How to Create Windows 10 To Go USB Drive?

Windows To Go is a built-in tool in Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, but now you can create Windows 10 To Go USB with free AOMEI Partition Assistant if you're not using Windows 10 Enterprise.

Why Need to Create Windows 10 To Go USB?

Windows To Go is a built-in tool in some Windows such as Windows 10, 8 or 8.1 Enterprise Edition. It is able to deploy a corporate environment which will boot from a USB drive or other external drive. With this tool, you can make "bring your own device (BYOD)" possible and keep your work environment and home use of PC separate if you use the same PC for work and home use. On the other hand, you can get a portable work environment. It allows you to work in the same Windows environment when you are on business or at home.

However, if you are not a user of Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, what can you do to create Windows 10 To Go USB? Just buy another one which has this feature and then reinstall it. Create Windows To Go USB with AOMEI Partition Assistant

AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard is a free software which devotes to hard disk partition management. It has a feature called Windows To Go Creator which also allows users to make your work environment on an external hard drive such as a USB drive and then you can boot from it. With AOMEI Partition Assistant, you don’t have to make sure your system is available to Windows To Go any more, because this feature supports Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7/Vista and Windows XP.

Step 1: Plug the USB drive into the computer. Make sure that it is detected by your machine.

Step 2: Download, install, and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant. The program will automatically display your USB drive. Then, click "Windows To Go Creator" on left side.

Step 3: In the pop-up window, click "Browse" button to select Windows 10 installation file (named install.wim or install.esd). If the program doesn’t detect it automatically, please click "Browse" to select manually. After that, click "OK" to continue.

Step 4: Click "Proceed". The program will inform you about something important. The data on this USB drive will be deleted and the partition on USB drive will be formatted as NTFS file system. If there are important data in USB drive, you should back up them in advance. Then click "Yes", creating Windows 10 bootable USB drive will begin.
