Windows 8 Migration Software - Move Your OS and Data

December 23, 2014

When you upgrade to Windows 8, you can use a Windows 8 migration software to clone your personal data and programs from your old disk. You can also use this migration software to migrate Windows 8 operating system to new SSD.

Now, Windows 8 comes! It is a completely new version with new interface and new performance! It is said that Microsoft will officially end support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. So I think it’s time to move on to the newest Windows 8.

Migrate from Windows XP or Windows 7 to Windows 8, you can use a migration software named AOMEI Partition Assistant and its functions: copy disk & copy partition. However, its premise is that your machines should support Windows 8 and make sure your programs work with Windows 8, otherwise, when you upgrade to Windows 8, you can’t use your applications.

Nowadays, with the development of computer technology, some computer hardware’s price have depreciated, such as SSDs. And as it known to all, there are many benefits if your operating system is on the SSD disk, your computer will boot more quickly and performs better. With the above migration software - AOMEI Partition Assistant, you can migrate OS from HDD to SSD safely and easily.

What’s more, UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is now a recommended platform for new 64-bit Windows 8 computers(see table). The reason is easy to catch - only a UEFI-based platform enables to accommodate Windows OS on a partition larger than 2.2TB. The partition must be on GPT disk, so the question comes, are your disk type is GPT or not? You can verify it from Windows disk management or AOMEI Partition Assistant’s main screen. If it were not, don’t worry, with AOMEI Partition Assistant’s feature “convert MBR to GPT disk”, it is easy to solve.

Windows 8 has an amazing function called “Windows to Go”, but only in Enterprise Edition. That allows Windows 8 to boot and run from mass storage devices such as USB flash drives and external hard disk drives. Now AOMEI Partition Assistant brings new feature named “Windows To Go Creator” that enables you to deploy a full corporate environment likes Windows 8, you don’t have to purchase Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise Edition any more.

AOMEI Partition Assistant has so many practical functions, such as extending partition, moving partition, merging partition, converting between NTFS and FAT, etc. It meets operational needs. So I think it is a good migration software for Windows 8.
