How to Extend Dynamic Mirrored Volumes Easily and Safely?
Share this:

It is well known that mirrored volume is one of the five types of dynamic volumes A mirrored volume (also known as RAID 1) is a fault-tolerant volume that duplicates your data on two separate dynamic disks. A mirror provides redundancy by writing the same data simultaneously. If one of the physical disks fails, the data on the failed disk becomes unavailable, but the system continues to operate using the unaffected disk. Mirrored volumes are supported by Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2012 and the latest Windows 7/8.

Because of the fault-tolerant advantage of mirrored volume, it is widely used by those who require high performance and high safety of computer, such as server administrators. However, with the quantity of important data stored on mirrored volume increasing, mirrored volumes will be running out of space. In this condition, you have to extend mirrored volume to include more data and files.

Unfortunately, Windows built-in disk tool can only extend simple and spanned volume, excluding mirrored volume. If you want to increase mirrored volume space, professional dynamic disk manager is indispensable, such as Partition Assistant, which is special designed to resize volume on both dynamic and basic disk. This tool can help you extend simple/spanned/striped/mirrored/RAID 5 volumes. Here is an example of how to extend mirrored volume safely and easily.
