Acronis True Image WD Edition will not clone

For most users, Acronis True Image WD Edition will be their prior choice for cloning WD hard drive. However, some of them report that Acronis True Image WD Edition will not clone, like the below one:

"I am trying to clone my hard drive to a new WD_BLACK P50 Game Drive SSD using Acronis True Image WD Edition that was downloaded from the WD site. However, when I try to run the Acronis WD Edition software it says “Acronis True Image WD Edition Installation Restricted - This product edition requires at least one Western Digital drive to be installed in your system. Not to mention to start cloning process."

How to fix it?

For the Acronis True Image WD Edition not clone issue, that’s because your WD SSD is connected via a USB cable so it cannot be found by the software. To solve this, you can contact WD support to download a special .exe file. Then run the .exe file 3-4 times. After that, run the Acronis install file again and it will find the WD drive and allow you to proceed.

Employ third party cloning software for WD hard drive

When the Acronis True Image WD edition fails to clone disk, compared with searching and trying all kinds of solutions, it would be much better to get an alternative to Acronis True Image WD Edition. Actually, AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional can be your right choice to clone Western Digital and other brands hard drives in Windows 10/8/7.

Apart from cloning an entire system/data disk, AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional also allows copying a specific partition in case you just want to migrate data in one partition to another location. For cloning the Windows partition, you can try its "Migrate OS to SSD Wizard".

Detailed steps of cloning hard drive:

Step 1. Install and run AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional on your Windows computer. Right click the disk you want to clone and choose "Copy Disk".

Copy Disk

Step 2. Select a copying method based on your requirements and click “Next”.

Copy Disk Quickly

Note: "Copy Disk Quickly" only copies the used space of the source disk while the "Sector-by-sector Copy" copies all sectors. The former supports cloning large disk to small disk as long as the destination disk is larger than the used space of the source disk.

Step 3. Choose a destination disk to hold all contents on the source disk. If it is an SSD drive, you can tick "Optimize the performance of SSD" at the bottom.

Select Destination Disk

Warning: all data on the destination disk will be wiped out after cloning, if you want to keep important data, please make a backup in advance.

Step 4. Here, you can edit partitions on the target disk if you choose the first copying method in Step 2. Or you can keep the defaults and hit on "Next".

Edit Disk

Step 5. Back to the main interface, click "Apply" and then "Proceed" to start the cloning process.

Apply

Since the above demonstration involves the system disk, so a reboot is required. If you are planning to clone GPT system disk to MBR or MBR system disk to GPT disk, you will have to change boot mode between BIOS and UEFI for boot success.

Conclusion

When Acronis True Image WD Edition will not clone, you can turn to this powerful WD cloning software to clone Western Digital HDD or SSD (even the latest WD_BLACK P50 Game Drive SSD) easily in Windows 10/8/7.If you are running Windows Server, please try AOMEI Partition Assistant Server.
