What you should know before cloning:

  • Connect the new hard drive to your computer and ensure that it can be recognized and shows up in Windows.

  • Confirm that your motherboard supports EFI/UEFI boot mode if you need to clone Windows 10 to GPT disk from MBR. And you need to enter BIOS to change boot mode from Legacy to EFI/UEFI after cloning.

  • Delete unwanted files and uninstall unnecessary programs on Windows 10 partition (usually is C drive). This process is omissible.

Note: When there is no unallocated space on the new SSD or HDD, you can check I want to delete all partitions… to get unallocated space, but this way will cause data loss.

Step 3. After selecting unallocated space, you can adjust the size, location, drive letter of the partition that being created or make it stay the same. Then, click Next.

Notes:

  • A reboot is necessary as this operation involves system partition and needs to be performed under PreOS environment.

  • After cloning Windows 10 partition to SSD /HDD and boot from the cloned disk in a success, you can format C drive on the old hard drive to free up disk space.
